As many will (or should!) know our Headquarters Base is SSS (Sea Scout Ship) Indomitable and Alan Smith was in discussion at a recent Cub meeting and commented that the Headquarters took the name from HMS
Indomitable, an aircraft carrier in World War 2. Alan’s Father (“Cap Smith”), a past Group Scout Leader of the Group, had a lifelong friend who served aboard HMS “Indomitable” and in to the conversation on Cub night came a young Cub Joseph Patrick Williams who mentioned that his Great Grandfather Joseph Williams was also on the Indomitable. How about that for a bit of coincidence.
Are there any other Members who can claim to have an association with an old seaman from Indomitable? Let us know and we could add the information to our display of HMS Indomitable if the Ward Room.
